POPS is a nonprofit citizens’ group dedicated to promoting and preserving our beautiful Pacifica, California Pier. It began in 2000 to secure funds for repairs to preserve the pier against the forces of nature and assure that the 30+ year old pier can be with us for another 30 years to come. We are active in lobbying and securing grants for repairs, estimated at $5 million over time, and sponsoring activities at the Pier including poetry and art contest, benefit concerts, outdoor events at the pier and an annual award to the citizens who have done most to support the pier each year.
The Pier, which serves 500,000 visitors annually from throughout California and beyond, has been called the best fishing pier in the state with the abundant salmon, crab and bass. The pier offers a chance for free fishing to the public with no fishing license required, free parking and local bait shops are nearby for added convenience. It also draws visitors who just want to walk on the 100 yards of pier to see beautiful vistas of Pacifica’s beaches and mountains and have coffee at the café located at the base of the pier.
